It Just Started

It seemed to start off as an ordinary day but the GI doctor came back with life shattering news. He said,”It never gets any easier after all these years, you’ve colo-rectal cancer”. I’m glad wife was there to be with me and hold my hands. I was stunned at best and they sent me to emergency, before finally getting me a room for the night.

That was about three and a half years ago, my wife has still stuck by my side doing what she can to care and comfort me. Way more than her marriage vows ever seemed to require of her. That is when one finds out what real love is, and it is tough on both, that is for sure!

I Think I Got It

If I could just conquer my tongue, (my typing speed allows me to somewhat check myself), it would save me from so much pain and trouble. I have been told I have two ears and one mouth. Maybe that means I should talk half as much as I listen? It should lessen the odds of how much trouble I can get into! And perhaps I will understand more of what I hear.

Give It A Rest, Please

Hardly anything is not a controversy these days, engendering a zeigeist of grill up in grill, toe to toe, and fist to cuff, view of the world. From the victim of police brutality, “Can’t we all just get along?”. I wish the only place polarized existed anymore was on sunglasses.

What Kind Of…

As an old Blues line goes,”If wasn’t bad luck, I wouldn’t have no luck at all”. Another more optimistic one says.” The harder I work, the luckier I get”.  The wisest one said,” Time and chance happen to all men”.

Somehow in my own short number of years I’ve found that all three conditions seem to true, fortunately not all at the same time, definitely validating, “There is a time and a season for everything under the sun”.

Where Does It End

When I was a kid I went to the observation deck of the Empire State Building. That before I took a flight in an airplane. My perspective of what a huge height was changed then.  Never have been in a spaceship or to the grand canyon, but my mind has grown enough to comprehend the vastness, though I’m sure being there might change my mind.

My first computer had one meg of RAM in it. At the time that seemed huge with two floppy drives. A few years later, my first hard drive 420 Megs. I thought that was an ocean, that couldn’t be filled.

The Universe is massive, more so than ever imagined, constantly growing, yet made of as we discover, increasingly smaller and smaller particles. A candle of infinity burning in both directions, yet never dripping wax or diminishing in size.

The God particle unbelievably small, and still He holds it all in His hand.

It Is Not My Fault

They can’t help it, poor little creatures. That works fine as an excuse for animals and babies for poor behavior. That is just their nature. Should the babies make it to some level of maturity, it is hoped that the old selfish nature has diminished and a less self-centered one has emerged.

Still, within humanity the struggle to be freed from the limitations of selfishness to selflessness is a tremendous internal fight, the only route to selflessness is to come to the conclusion, the self must die. Not the most popular of ideas to have appeared.

If only my nature would change, then my problem would be resolved.As a new nature would give  new instincts

Birds and Cream

I think a starling was mentioned in Cream’s “In A White room”, but surely there were no murmurations or murders! Actually I believe that was the only avian reference in the song.

As Usual, It Depends On Usage

I like it when Nancy calls me that, generally displeased if my boss says the same thing. For those who have earned the right to use it as a term of endearment, sure go ahead. I might even reciprocate. It would be unwise of me to use it in any other usage, save to describe a litteral infant. A child under one year of age. Baby that’s you!

It Goes By Fast

The train stands still, waiting for passengers board as well as disembark. The rumble of the powerful diesel engines as they idle at the head of the train. My ticket is checked by the conductor, who leads me to my berth. I’m glad to have a sleeper car, it is quite a luxury!

Even though I’ve ridden the train many times, I’m still amazed at how smooth and quiet o at first a slow walk, and then to a slow cruising speed. The outside word slowly ambles by. The city slowly turns to its suburbs, and finally to the country side.  Soon the path of the rails straighten up. No longer is the view from the outside, it has become a blur, save the few  vehicles passed up on the roads that seem to take the same route as us.

The view becomes a bit much and it seems like a good time for a nap.

Worth The Wait

The rain gently dribbles off the roof, some getting caught in the palm fronds, turning into glistening drops. As the day slowly winds away into night, the wind increases, no more a gentle dribbling, the rain starts to pelt the glass panes. The rat-a-tat-tat increases through the night, soon to be joined by the rumble and shake of the sump pump.

Daylight arrives, the sky is clear for a while, silence returns. By the time one is used to the peace, the rain returns and the cycle resumes. To be repeated for what seems to be an endless cycle, but it is really just a little over a week.

Now all is clear, the ground soggy. Boots are laced up, a walk through the back yard to the citrus trees and picked some of the low-hanging fruit. Lemons and oranges.

Returned home, boots unlaced and kicked off. A quick rinse and dry of the heavy fruit, slowly the peels are removed. Eyes closed, the aroma wafts to the nose, producing an earthy pleasure. A bite into the orange wedge causes the juices to run down the chin. Now that is some juicy fruit!
