Long ago summer day in the Adirondaks

Looking out, from off the deck, soaking in the reds, oranges, and purples peaking past the mountains, Bald and Eagle, giant boulders to,the right, Hurricane almost due west, just a tiny pyramid in the back. Lighting bugs begin to flicker, Monarchs are gone, mist rising from the river creating a thick snake above it. Swatting mosquitoes, inhaling the perfume of goldenrod, glad I’m not allergic. It was a great day, dipped in the river, busted open some milkweed pods, watched the spores scatter. Even did some chores, that pleased my parents. Played in the dirt pit at the far end of the field. Firecrackers blowing up miniature embattlements, fresh air, ready for bed.
